Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Close on the heels of the motion picture industry's rejection of the opportunity to sponsor the 33rd Annual Awards telecast, the Academy is negotiating contracts both for networks to carry the show and with potential commercial sponsors. Our six-year contract with NBC expired this year. We do not anticipate any difficulty on either score. All three networks have expressed an interest in carrying this show which annually has received the highest rating of the year for television, and we have been approached by many companies interested in sponsoring the telecast. (Continued on Page 2) Board Re-elects Kahane Academy President, Picks Other Officers; 6 New Governors Named B. B. Kahane was unanimously re-elected president of the Academy for the 1960-61 year at the first meeting of the new Board of Governors. This will be his second term . Othenrrftce-rs- elected by the Board were Valentine Davies, 1 st vice president; Wendell R. Corey, 2nd vice president; Hal Elias, secretary; Hal Mohr, assistant secretary; Fred L. Metzler, treasurer; and John O. Aalberg, assistant treasurer. Hal Elias and Fred L. Metzler were re-elected to posts they held last year. Thirteen members were elected to the Board this year. Newly-elected governors who will serve for a two-year term are Steve Broidy (Administrators), Charles G. Clarke (Cinematographers!, Walter F. Wanger (Producers!, John C. Flinn (Public Relations), Ken Peterson (Short Subjects), and Valentine Davies (Writers). Re-elected to serve on the board for another two years were Wendell R. Corey (Actors), Emile Kuri (Art Directors), George Stevens (Directors), Fred L. Metzler (Executives), Richard H. Cahoon (Film Editors!, Hugo Friedhofer (Music), John O. Aalberg (Sound). The Board of Governors consists of 26 elected members-two from each of the Academy's 13 branches. One member from each branch is elected annually for a two-year term. Governors elected last year who retain their places on the board until May, 1961, are Edgar Preston Ames, Jack Diamond, George W. Duning, Hal Elias, Samuel G. Engel, Rudi A. Fehr, B. B. Kahane, Jacob H. Karp, Mervyn LeRoy, Hal Mohr, Richard Murphy, Robert Ryan, Gordon E. Sawyer.
