TIM CLANCY, an ex-convict, on the day of his release returns home and is welcomed by his
mother and sweetheart. Having learned his lesson inside prison walls, he decides to turn over a
new leaf and stick to the straight and narrow path in the future. He applies for and secures work
at the Ganes Shoe Factory. Here he is recognized by a detective and when his record is made known
to the mangement he is discharged. The inevitable follows. Tim spends many weary weeks searching for work but is rebuffed at every turn through the efforts of his nemesis, the detective. Finally he
is forced to beg. He appears at the Preston home and asks for bread. Mrs. Preston, who has just
finished her baking, gives him one of the warm loaves. After his departure, Mrs. Preston discovers
the loss of one of her finger rings. Tim returns home and finds the ring inside the loaf. His. mother
prevails upon him to return the ring, and Tim starts for the Preston home. Many times he is strongly
tempted to pawn the ring but resists the temptation. Arriving at the
Preston's he is recognized as an ex-convict and before he has a chance
to explain, the dog is set upon him. He flees, but is later captured and
taken prisoner. He tells his story of finding the ring and when it is veri-
Ified by Mrs. Preston, Tim is finally offered his old job in the shoe fac-
jltory. That night there is rejoicing in the poorly furnished, but happy
home of the Clancy's.
